Soapblox, a publishing platform and community for a grip of progressive and liberal blogs, got hacked.

This was posted on the front page this morning:

It was a good ride, but it’s over.

Thanks for all the fish.

All these hackers messing with our stuff, and we here at SoapBlox have no clue what to do. We don’t have enough knowledge, time, money, or care to fix it.

So I hope the Hackers are happy.

Ben Smith on Politco wrote:

The attack is a reminder of how little redundancy there is in big portions of the rapidly-expanding Internet, and how fragile the systems that manage content can be.

Matt Glazer editor-in-chief of Burnt Orange Report informs on his site:

Our site, along with nearly 100 others, are run on the SoapBlox platform. That is hundreds of thousands of eyes across the nation who use SoapBlox and never knew it.

What we know right now is that MN Progressive Project, Swing State Project, BlueJersey, Pam’s House Blend, and many other sites are down and could be knocked out by this hack.

We called Glazer and asked if there had been any progress on this. “It has shown us a need for improvement in our infrastructure.” Insert shameless plug for public works quip here.

He also assured FBLA, “By the end of the day it will be like this never happened but it’s a very long day. Very long.”

Twitter got hacked last week. We see a trend which makes us think of the 1995 Angelina Jolie movie Hackers with the awesome tagline, “Their only crime was curiosity…”
