Splash News Tees Up Weekly TV Show

In what amounts to the closest variation yet of TMZ’s syndicated weekday program, Splash News will be at next month’s MIPCOM conference in Cannes to sell a new weekly show called SPLASH TV.

It’s unclear whether the Splash show will feature the celebrity photo agency’s equivalent to ice tea-sipping Harvey Levin. But the gist of the upcoming program, per today’s press release, sounds remarkably similar:

The half-hour television magazine series features the latest in celebrity news with exclusive footage captured by Splash News’ army of Hollywood digital papparazzi [sic].

Misspelling the word “paparazzi” in the press release is not exactly an auspicious start.* Corbis-owned Splash is partnered on the TV project with Shankly Productions, a London and West Hollywood based subsidiary of the Libra Group.

*Update – 09/14/11: Regarding the “papparazi” typo, SSA Public Relations owner Steve Syatt contacted us via email to clarify that: a) It was his firm’s mistake, not Splash’s; and, b) Despite quickly catching and correcting the error in-house, a first draft of the release was accidentally the one that was initially sent out.
