It’s the most prestigious motorsports journalism award in the country, and no photographer has won it more times than Will Lester.
At a ceremony in Charlotte, North Carolina held during NASCAR’s annual Sprint Media Tour, Lester, a staff photographer for the San Bernardino Sun and Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, collected a Taxslayer.com Motorsports Journalism Award for his shot of Johnny Gray‘s exploding car at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway (pictured). From the Contra Costa Times write-up:
“His [four] awards by far beats everybody,” said freelance photographer David Griffin, a past winner. As in years past, the Indiana University School of Journalism judged the award entries.
Lester, who unlike most of the other nominees does not cover race car driving full-time, previously won the award in 2000, 2006 and 2008. He is donating the $1,000 scholarship that comes with his latest prize to his Alma Mater, Cal State Fullerton.
