Todd McCarthy Joins The Hollywood Reporter

Former Variety film critic Todd McCarthy has jumped on Janice Min‘s hiring train. Only months after being laid off from Variety, and picking up a subsequent gig blogging for IndieWire, McCarthy has landed at THR, where he will head the mag’s film section when it relaunches on November 1.

“We were really glad to have been able to offer Todd an entrepreneurial home when he needed one,” Rick Allen, CEO of SnagFilms, which runs IndieWIRE told THR, “but completely understand his desire to return to his roots with a publisher like The Hollywood Reporter, and we wish him well.”

Strangely, the New York Times broke the news of McCarthy’s hire. The THR post on McCarthy’s hire links to the NYT. Weird.

Glad the mag is kicking ass, hiring everyone in sight, but you’d think they could find the time to break the news of their own hires.
