USC Journalism School Launches Online News Site

Today the USC Annenberg’s School of Journalism announced the launch of a student-run news website NeonTommy.com. Neon Tommy is being co-edited by graduate journalism students Brian Frank and Chris Nelson, under the supervision of Annenberg Digital News director and journalism professor Marc Cooper. According to Cooper, the site is “meant to compete with anybody and everybody on local and national news” and they seem prepared to do just that. A quick count of their staff list gave us 38 names- more people than are currently on the editorial staff of LACityBeat and LA Weekly combined.

Design is still in BETA mode, thank heavens- the current layout is reminding us of a porn site. A very professional porn site, but still…
