What’s in a name? Hopefully, not memories of stripper scandals
What does EIDC stand for? For those outside of Hollywood, the question usually draws a dumb look. For those in Hollywood, the jokey response, world-weary quip was usually: “Embezzlement Industry Defrauding Citizens”?
And rightly so, as the Los Angeles Times notes today,
after months of bad press
“its former chief, Cody Cluff…was sentenced last year to three years’ probation for embezzling funds. Cluff pleaded no contest to using the organization’s money for personal use, including trips to strip clubs and donations to his children’s school. He was ordered to repay $80,000 to the group.”
Well, no more. The EIDC will announce today that it is burying its weirdly nations-capitol-sounding name and now digs the more apt moniker, Film L.A. Inc.
“Now, you actually know what they do,” Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa told the Times.
You mean with the exotic dancers? Oh, wait. It’s film permits…right?
