Veteran Reporter Jackie Hyland Leaves WPIX–Again

Jackie Hyland, who was in her second stint with WPIX, has officially left the station. WPIX confirmed to FishbowlNY that Hyland’s contract was not renewed at the end of March.

Hyland, who worked at WPIX from 2000 to 2005, was back at Channel 11 in August of 2009 as weekend anchor. However, her days were, apparently, numbered. Once news director Bill Carey brought in Jodi Applegate from News 12 Long Island in October 2010, that led to previous weeknight co-anchor Jim Watkins flying solo on Saturday and Sunday night newscasts.

“Right now, I’m spending time with my girls, and pursuing other opportunities,” Hyland tells FishbowlNY.

The New York City-born Hyland was actually raised in Ireland, spending a decade taking over her family’s ancestral properties.

Prior to her WPIX return, Hyland worked on ABC News NOW as an anchor/correspondent. She also did fill-in anchoring on ABC’s World News Now and contributed to Good Morning America.

She got her local news start at Cablevision’s News 12 Long Island and News 12 Westchester in 1995.

The accomplished broadcast journalist won a New York Emmy in 2004. She was nominated six times.
