Well-rounded, internationally published writer/photographer with a flair for capturing the essence of a person or place. Specialties include travel and health, though I love new challenges. Article topics have included cruises in China and Alaska, a bicycle tour in NYC, arthritis, and Enron trial's litigation support personnel (cover story). My photographic style veers toward candid portraiture, especially when I'm traveling. Travel expertise: US, Asia, South America, Antarctica, adventure, family travel.
Please contact me via e-mail or at (312) 218-5719. (The telephone number below is no longer valid, but a glitch in this system prevents me from changing it! Thanks.) |

What do you wish you'd learned sooner?
That the world is not a scary place. I've traveled in 37 countries and have never once felt threatened, unwelcome, or unsafe. That speaks volumes.
Describe your dream assignment
Spending a month interviewing citizens of Laos and writing and/or photographing their story. When I traveled in Laos, I yearned to be able to communicate better with the people, as I long to understand their lives. I'm particularly interested in their perception of the outside world.
What book is on your nightstand right now?
Many Lives, Many Masters by Brian L. Weiss, MD; Audition by Barbara Walters; Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin; Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child by Marc Weissbluth, MD
What's the hardest work project you've ever tackled?
The first medical article I wrote for a journal. I had never realized how precise medical writing had to be, and I couldn't believe the process took several months. It was an invaluable learning experience.
What's the best job you've ever had?
Freelancing. It allows me to work flexible hours in a comfortable environment, exploring themes and topics that interest me personally.
What's your idea of a perfect Saturday night?
Dinner and a good bottle of red wine with my husband, a fabulous movie (foreign, perhaps? or maybe a romantic comedy?) and my two children sleeping through the night. Pure bliss.
What's your idea of a perfect Monday morning?
Waking up to California sunshine, feeling well rested, and having a yummy, healthy breakfast before starting the day
In ten years, I want to be:
A successful travel writer, a loving mother (to my son, born 12/12/05, and daughter, born 10/17/07), still an athlete (I do triathlons and practice yoga), and still an adventurer. The world continues to pique my curiosity.
