After 12 Years At LAT, ‘The Paycheck Just Wasn’t Worth It Anymore’

Maria Elena Fernandez has left the building.

Fernandez was a reporter in the Calendar section of the Los Angeles Times, covering television for seven years, with another 5 years of LAT experience before that. But now she’s quit for a new job. Why?

She tells our sister blog FishbowlLA:

“You just need to read the Calendar section and look at the Web site to know that in the last two years something has gone terribly wrong….Calendar is not the joyous, inspiring place it once was and the paycheck just wasn’t worth it anymore.”

Fernandez is not the only Calendar writer to have left in recent months. As FBLA reports, 13 staffers have parted ways with the section over the past year and a half.
