First Hires In Spanfeller Media Food Site Named

Spanfeller Media’s soon-to-launch food site, The Daily Meal, will launch Oct. 15, and the first hires have been named, according to a memo obtained by Romenesko: Colman Andrews will serve as editorial director, and Valaer Murray will be managing editor.

Andrews co-founded Saveur in 1994. During his tenure at the magazine, he won six James Beard awards.

Murray is a “food travel expert” who previously was managing editor of Forbes Traveler.

At least as of a month ago, The Daily Meal was still hiring, so there may still be opportunity for foodies.

However, we speculate that at least one more position has been filled. This is pure speculation but we do know that Georgia Freedman has left her position as managing editor of Saveur effective yesterday. Will she be joining Andrews and Murray at The Daily Meal? We’ll try to find out.
