If 40% Of Tweets Are Pointless Babble, How’s That Different From The Office?

so I says to Mabel, I says… flickr: prosto photos; share alike.

Remember the study that said 40% of Tweets are “pointless babble”?

This may actually be a pretty impressive number, suggests Tim Sackett of Fistful of Talent.

“What percentage of random “fly-by’s” my office are…someone just needing a quick break from the day to share with me how they went out last night for a “love it” mint-mint-chocolate chip at Cold Stone? Or, [what's] the percentage of emails I get that are thanking me for the thank you I sent to them, for something they should have done without a thank you?”

Seen this way, Twitter’s not necessarily a “time-waster” any more than is office watercooler chitchat; it’s just a different tool. We know a lot of people, actually, who work from home and say that Twitter is, point-blank, their watercooler substitute.

And if we believe that workers who have friends at work and are able to socialize (aka babble pointlessly) at each other are happier and more productive, maybe Twitter use should become—dare we say it—mandatory.

Ah well….a gal can dream.
