Massive Job Cuts At San Diego Union-Tribune

Via FishbowlLA: The San Diego Union-Tribune announced it would be cutting almost 200 positions company-wide yesterday, three days after Platinum Equity completed the acquisition of the paper.

The new owners asked staffers last week to sign documents informing them that they could be laid off at any time.

A total of 192 positions will be eliminated, effective July 6; the number of cuts in each department, including the newsroom, were not disclosed, but sources told San Diego News Network that positions were eliminated across the company, including advertising, and including seven janitors.
