News Aggregator Newser Gets $2.5 Mil

The news aggregation site founded by the man who started HighBeam Research and Hoovers has just announced $2.5 million in its first official round of funding, paidContent reports.

Newser‘s very visual interface has been, er, adopted by other media companies since Newser’s launch. Newser now gets 2 million visitors a month, peanuts compared to Yahoo or Google, but pretty good if you ask us considering they have a staff of 19 and are pretty close to break even, according to PaidContent.

Cofounder Patrick Spain (the one who was involved in HighBeam and Hoovers) says he expects to be able to announce a “white-label” ad deal soon, which will supplement the ad networks currently running on the site.
