NewsCorp. Sells Beliefnet, “Great Number” of Layoffs
David Kaplan at Paidcontent is reporting that News Corp. will sell Beliefnet to BN Media. In preparation for this sale, Beliefnet, a religious news and discussion site, laid off a “great number” of employees today.
The total count was not available, but an announcement from the company is expected later today.
Paidcontent obtained a memo sent from Beliefnet GM and COO Beth-Ann Eason.
“This afternoon we are announcing that Beliefnet has been acquired by BN Media, LLC, which is the investment group behind Affinity4 and Cross Bridge Media, companies many of you know due to our successful working relationships with them over the past year,” says Eason in the memo.
Eason goes on to add:
We have also taken the difficult step of cutting a number of jobs from Beliefnet’s staff. We are losing a number of great people, each of whom has contributed to our success over the years, and I hope you will join me in thanking them for their efforts and helping them through this transition. These cuts were a necessary step to ensure Beliefnet can continue growing as efficiently and effectively as possible.
We will let you know if we hear anything more.
