RBI’s Already Shuttering Titles; Three Down

We reported Monday that Reed Business Information would be shuttering at least some of its 50 US-based trade magazines, and according to our colleagues at FishbowlNY, the closures have already begun.

The important part: RBI has closed Manufacturing Business Technology, Industrial Distribution and Video Business, effective today. DM2 (or “DecisionMaker”), which manages, markets, and rents third-party b-2-b mailing lists, will no longer manage non-RBI lists, effective April.

We’ve reached out to a RBI spokesperson and will update when we hear back. Until then, we can only guess at how many people are affected: There are five people on MBT’s editorial masthead and seven on the business side; eleven edit staff on Video Business’s masthead (and ten contributors) and eight on the business side; seven edit staff and thirteen sales staff at Industrial Distribution. Now, it’s likely that many of these employees worked on more than one of RBI’s titles, so we’re not coming out and saying that 51 people are losing their jobs. But it looks like up to 51 people could be in the unemployment line tomorrow.
