Rick Santorum Gets $1,750 Per Philly Inquirer Column

Kudos to the brilliant souls at the Philadelphia Daily News who dug through the Philadelphia Inquirer’s bankruptcy filing to find that former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum collects $1,750 for each column he writes for the paper. The former senator’s column, “The Elephant In The Room,” runs biweekly.

$3500 a month could pay a lot of citizen journalists, or buy some nice video cameras for the newsroom.
UPDATE: It was so sunny and pleasant last Friday afternoon, we did the math wrong when first posting this item. $3500 a month could pay for the salary of a full-time reporter with ~4 years experience, says Salary.com. (Goodness gracious.)

We are not implying that Mr. Santorum’s frothings are not worth the money, but when the New York Times pays $300 for an opinion piece, you have to wonder if the Inky was getting its money’s worth.
