Okay, we admit that productivity can be a combination of streamlining tasks, waking up earlier,and not answering messages during the day.

Well, according to an Entrepreneur piece, specific scents by boost your productivity as well! Consider this: The sense of smell is the strongest sense and can apparently influence brain activity.

In fact, Beverley Hawkins, owner of the Vancouver-based West Coast Institute of Aromatherapy, explained to the site, ”Essential oils have anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties and using them in an environment where there are a lot of people can help to keep germs at bay.”

Plus, inhaling essential oils activitates the hyothalamus and she pointed out taking one little whiff of an aroma can “cause many changes in the body.” For instance, it can activate the immune system and impact blood pressure and stimulate digestion.

Convinced yet? Here are six scents that have the ability to increase your productivity.

1. Lemon. For starters, as pointed out in the piece, this scent is known for boosting concentration. Plus, if you’re a bit ticked off at a colleague, it’s been known to have calming effects. Lemons also have antiviral and antibacterial properties to fight sore throats and colds.

2. Lavender. If you’ve ever inhaled a lavender scent and felt calmer, you’re not alone. It has a soothing effect on nerves and also has the ability to relieve nervous tension and depression. In addition, it can treat headaches and migraines, too.

3. Jasmine. Got jasmine? This oil may also be used to calm down and act as an anti-depressant. It produces feelings of confidence, optimism and rejuvenated energy — not bad if you’re heading into an intense meeting.

4. Rosemary. If you’re feeling sluggish by the end of the work week, rosemary is your go-to oil. It fights physical exhaustion, headaches and mental fatigue. And hey, if you’re not a morning person, this may become your makeshift jolt of java.

5. Cinnamon. Who wouldn’t want cinnamon to improve concentration and focus, right? Enough said.

6. Peppermint. If you feel minty fresh after you eat a peppermint, this oil also provides a jab of freshness when it comes to brainstorming. Known as an energy booster, it promotes concentration and clear thinking.
