Yes, citizen journalists have done some great work.

But isn’t this cool? AOL, which has been hiring print refugees as it prepares to spin off from Time Warner, is actually breaking news.

For example, says Silicon Alley Insider: TMZ scooped Michael Jackson’s death. Politics Daily was the first to report on the Henry Louis Gates incident. FanHouse, AOL’s sports site, broke the news of the recent fight between Raiders coaches.

And now…AOL is reporting, thanks to an “unscientific” survey that 71% of Americans pick their nose.

…At least someone in media got paid for this. Insult to injury’d be if the survey was conducted by interns or volunteers.
