What’s It Like Being Yahoo!s Head Of Social?

Everyone, or at least every web portal, wants a “head of social” these days. Even Google has been trying to get in on the game.

The idea, it seems, is to allow people to get their Facebook on without actually having to go to Facebook. Great idea if you’re a company that made its money being a portal site, not such a great idea if you’re Facebook or Twitter.

That hasn’t stopped Yahoo! from hiring Neal Sample, who’s the company’s VP of Social Platforms.

Here’s a video interview with him by Kara Swisher of All Things D.

He’s pretty funny, as Swisher says. About five and a half minutes in, Swisher asks him whether Yahoo wants to own status. His response? “Ehhh.”
