I am very pleased to make two announcements today regarding "Good Morning America."

First, Jim Murphy has joined "GMA" as senior executive producer. Jim is a talented news producer from CBS News whose career we have been following for some time - from his work on the "Morning Show", to "48 Hours" to, most recently "The CBS Evening News".

Second, Tom Cibrowski will take over as executive producer of "GMA" at the beginning of September. Many of you know Tom and the drive and dedication he brings to producing and overseeing the first hour of "GMA" each and every day. Tom began his television news career here at ABC News as a producer with "Nightline".

In their new roles, Jim and Tom will both be involved in all aspects of the program. But in general, Tom will be responsible daily for the execution of the program, while allowing Jim to focus on the program's overall vision and direction.

When Ben Sherwood steps down at the end of August, he will leave "GMA" in a very strong position to face the competition this fall. Under Ben's leadership, "GMA" posted the two highest rated seasons since Nielsen's electronic database began in the fall of 1991. I know that Jim and Tom will lead the program, along with our anchors, Diane and Robin, to new heights in the coming season .
