Answer…

NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams and correspondent Tom Aspell addressed Tuesday night’s inaccurate reporting about the assassination of an Iraqi judge. BW’s lead: “Last night here on this broadcast we had news of a judge’s murder. At that time U.S. sources believed the victim was the presiding judge in the Saddam case. We later learned and reported it was, in fact, a member of the Saddam tribunal.”

Tom Aspell repeated the correction in his package: “Last night, NBC News reported the murdered judge was the man who presided over Saddam Hussein’s initial courtroom appearance last summer. That reporting was based on interviews with multiple U.S. officials. They later told NBC News their information was based on erroneous reports out of Baghdad.”
