Happy holidays, cablers — here’s a belated present from the embattled governor of Illinois. Rod Blagojevich has decided to name a replacement to the Senate seat vacated by President-elect Barack Obama.

Blago’s choice? Illinois’ former top cop: one-time Attorney General Roland Burris (we had Patty Blagojevich in the office pool).

MSNBC first reported the news (attributed to the Chicago Tribune) around 12:20pmET, then Fox News, then CNN. And the cablers will be getting another gift: a 3pmET live news conference announcing the pick.
