CBS Evening News with Katie Couric Falls Below Six Million Viewers

An e-mailer asks: “Is this the first time the number of total viewers for the CBS Evening News has fallen below 6 million?”

Yes. For the week of May 21, Katie Couric averaged 5,960,000 viewers.

Couric’s previous low, 6,050,000, came at the start of the May sweep. It was, at the time, the smallest audience for the Evening News in decades.
