CBS News Touts “Significant Early-Season Ratings Growth”

Well, CBS News would like you to know that all their news programs — not just 60 Minutes — are growing. Yes, the presidential campaign has helped, and who knows what will happen after the election. Either way, CBS News programs are drawing more viewers these days. And they want you to know about it.

MORE GOOD NEWS AT CBS NEWS: SIGNIFICANT EARLY-SEASON RATINGS GROWTH

CBS News has begun the 2008-09 television season on a high note with strong ratings growth at several broadcasts. Following are highlights (all numbers compared to the same period a year ago):

60 MINUTES
• last Sunday (5), drew 16.65 million viewers to finish number three primetime program for the week; also attracted biggest audience in viewers, households, adults 25-54 and adults 18-49 since Jan. 6, 2008

CBS EVENING NEWS
• up +5% in households, +10% in viewers and +14% in adults 25-54 for last week, the best full five-broadcast week in each measurement since the week of March 10, 2008
• season-to-date, even in households and up +10% in viewers and +14% in adults 25-54

FACE THE NATION WITH BOB SCHIEFFER
• double-digit percentage increases in all key measures last Sunday (5): up +33% in households, +43% in viewers and +43% in adults 25-54
• season-to-date: largest across-the-board gains of all Sunday morning public affairs programs: up +33% in households, +44% in viewers and +43% in adults 25-54. (The program’s broadcast times are subject to disruption in many Mountain and West Coast markets from September through January due to live coverage of the National Football League.)

THE EARLY SHOW
• up +5% in households, +7% in viewers and +11% in adults 25-54, compared to the same week last year
• cut the gap with GMA by 715,000 viewers and by 35% in households, 38% in adults 25-54, 25% in women 25-54 and 22% among women 18-49

48 HOURS MYSTERY
• season premiere on September 27 scored a terrific set of numbers: up +16% in households, +23% in viewers and +26% in adults 25-54. Those are the broadcast’s best numbers since Nov. 27, 2007 and make it Saturday night’s number one broadcast in all of those measures.

CBS NEWS SUNDAY MORNING
• up +3% in households, +8% in viewers and +15% in adults 25-54, making it the top Sunday morning news program in each category
• season-to-date: up +3% in viewers, +7% in adults 25-54 and even in households
