CBS Takes Home Four Business/Financial News Emmy Awards

With Monday’s announcement of the winners of the Business and Financial Emmy Awards, at which CBS News won four of the eight awards, CBS News & Sports president Sean McManus sent a note to staff congratulating them on the wins. “In fact,” writes McManus, “CBS was the only network news organization to win any Emmys yesterday. Special congratulations go to Scott Pelley and 60 MINUTES for winning three of those awards. Sharyl Attkisson‘s incisive investigation of TARP funds for The Evening News won the fourth.”

The memo after the jump…

I am proud to report that CBS News was far and away the biggest winner at yesterday’s Business and Financial Emmy Awards ceremony, taking home four Emmys – half of the 8 awards for reporting allocated to the entire industry and double the number of the nearest competitor. In fact, CBS was the only network news organization to win any Emmys yesterday. Special congratulations go to Scott Pelley and 60 MINUTES for winning three of those awards. Sharyl Attkisson’s incisive investigation of TARP funds for The EVENING NEWS won the fourth.

Our extraordinary dominance in these awards corroborates that CBS News truly has done the best job on television covering the financial meltdown and remains in the lead on reporting the continuing economic crisis. It is a critical yet highly complex story that affects literally every American. So congratulations to the winners and to all who have contributed to our unmatched coverage of one of the biggest stories in decades.
