From a TVNewser tipster: “CBS will announce that Chris Dinan will take over the number two job at The CBS Evening News today. Dinan is a well-liked CBS senior producer who worked under Jim Murphy and Rome Hartman.”
There had been speculation last week that former EP of the Early Show Michael Bass would be going to Evening News. Today was Shelley Ross‘ first day as Early’s new senior EP.
CBS NEWS VETERAN CHRIS DINAN IS NAMED SENIOR BROADCAST PRODUCER OF
THE “CBS EVENING NEWS WITH KATIE COURIC”
Chris Dinan will become the senior broadcast producer for the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH KATIE COURIC, it was announced today by Rick Kaplan, executive producer of the broadcast. The appointment is effective immediately.
â€œI am thrilled to be working so closely with Chris,â€ said Kaplan. â€œChrisâ€™ abilities are well known and he is one of the most talented and well-respected journalists at our network.â€ Kaplan went on to say, â€œHe’s the best producer and the best person for the number two role.â€
Dinan joined the CBS EVENING NEWS in 1998 as a producer and has been a broadcast producer for the EVENING NEWS for 7 years. Prior to that, he was a producer for â€œCBS This Morningâ€ (1996-98) and for the â€œCBS Morning Newsâ€ (1994-96) and a writer and editor at â€œCBS This Morningâ€ (1992-94). Dinan started his career at CBS News in radio news in 1987.
He is an Emmy Award-winning producer and has been involved in CBS Newsâ€™ coverage of almost every major news event in the past two decades, including the Oklahoma City bombing, the explosion of TWA 800, the hunt and capture of the Unabomber and an extended series of CBS EVENING NEWS broadcasts in the weeks following the attacks of Sept. 11. Dinan has also produced on the ground from Iraq and reported on numerous hurricanes and their aftermaths.
He was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He will celebrate his 20th anniversary with CBS News on Sept. 27.
