CBS Evening News EP Rick Kaplan returned to work today more than month after fracturing his hip while on the campaign trail in Iowa. Kaplan and CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric were walking on the tarmac in Des Moines Friday, Jan. 4 when Kaplan slipped on a patch of ice. He returned to work the following week, but the injury proved to be worse than first thought.

Insiders tell TVNewser Kaplan returned to the CBS News room this morning to the tune of Hail to the Chief (complete with balloon drop). He thanked the staff for the get-well wishes, telling them how proud he was of the broadcast in his absence.
