So, Helen Thomas was born on this day in 1920. Barack Obama was born on this day in 1961 (in Honolulu, Hawaii, in case you were wondering).

Earlier this afternoon in the White House briefing room, the president surprised the press, in particular Thomas, by presenting her with cupcakes and a kiss, which led CNN anchor Kyra Phillips to wonder if the 89-year-old can still be objective after getting a wet one from the commander-in-chief. Leave it to Christiane Amanpour to say “yes she can.”
