CNN Sports Anchor Sparks Controversy

Public Eye co-editor, Matthew Felling asks the question, “What do you get when you combine a sportscaster – who mostly gabs over highlight clips, with an occasional quip – with a controversial hard news story? …how about … trouble.”

He’s referring to controversial comments made by CNN sports anchor Larry Smith on Nancy Grace last week. Comparing recent criminal charges against Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick to the sexual assault case involving L.A. Laker Kobe Bryant, Smith commented, “Keep in mind, too, that while Kobe Bryant is a situation we can sort of compare this to, this really is much worse.”

When confronted by Nancy Grace, Smith adds, “I’m sorry… I’m not arguing for which is worse, I’m just saying that in terms of his (Vick’s) visibility (this) is much worse.”
