Comedy Central and ‘Daily Show’ Correspondent Developing Public Affairs Show Spoof

Watch out “Face the Nation” and “Meet the Press,” there might be a new public affairs show coming to town. Sort of.

Comedy Central unveiled its 2012 development slate Wednesday, and among the shows in the works is a spoof on the public affairs genre. Specifically classic public affairs shows from the 80′s. The program is from Wyatt Cenac, who is very familiar with fake news programs, given his role as a correspondent on “The Daily Show.” Cenac is serving as host, writer and EP of the still-untitled project.

Earlier this year the channel debuted its own take on the TV newsmagazine format with “Jon Benjamin Has a Van.” That program failed to catch on with viewers, and is not expected to return.

Update: Comedy Central says it has not made a decision regarding Benjamin’s show, and has in fact ordered additional scripts.
