Even Comic Book Journalists Are Feeling the Effects of the Newsroom Blues

Starr_3.28.jpgIn today’s Brenda Starr comic strip the globe-trotting reporter gets furloughed.

In a story on tonight’s ABC World News, the writer of the Starr strip, Chicago Tribune columnist Mary Schmich, says, “There’s no way that I could write a comic strip that’s set in a newsroom and not pay attention to what’s going on in newsrooms right now.”

But thankfully for Starr it’s only a furlough, she hasn’t been laid off. But Schmich hints Starr will transform herself during her time off. “Brenda is going to go do what a lot of young journalists are doing now,” Schmich says, “I can’t say anything more than that.”

Nice comic strip cliffhanger. Maybe it’ll sell a few more editions and help keep Starr’s real life colleagues in business.
