Evening News Ratings: Week of Sept. 8

Helped by strong ratings on Thursday and Friday thanks to Charles Gibson‘s interview with Gov. Sarah Palin, ABC’s World News was the top-rated evening news broadcast in both Total Viewers and the A25-54 demo.

It was the first week ABC topped NBC Nightly News in the demo since the week of May 5 of July 28 and the first time in Total Viewers since the week of May 26.

All three networks saw increases week-to-week in both categories, but ABC was up the most. It was also a big week for the CBS Evening News, which had its higher viewership since the week of March 24.

Note: CBS’ Evening News average is based on a four-day week because of U.S. Open coverage.

Total Viewers: ABC: 8,880,000 / NBC: 8,360,000 / CBS: 6,210,000

25-54 demo: ABC: 2,780,000 / NBC: 2,630,000 / CBS: 2,000,000

25-54 rating: ABC: 2.3/9 / NBC: 2.1/9 / CBS: 1.6/6
