FBN’s Adam Shapiro Reflects on a Busy News Week

Adam Shapiro had a busy week. The FBN reporter spent Monday reporting from Sandy-ravaged Staten Island before jumping on a plane and flying to Las Vegas to cover the election on Tuesday. He talks about the experience with MarketWatch’s Jon Friedman, concluding, “I would not trade this for anything. We have the best jobs in the world.”

“You’re there to serve the people who are trying to get their lives back,” he said of the Sandy assignment. One of Shapiro’s biggest challenges on Staten Island was separating his professional responsibility from the sadness he felt for the people all around him.

“There is always someone who has far it worse than me,” he said. Working with field producer Kathryn Glass and photographer Benjamin West, Shapiro doesn’t have the luxury of feeling fatigue because there is always something to do in these extraordinary situations.

“You don’t need to call upon the energy. The worst part of an assignment is when nothing is happening,” he laughed. “Then you remember how tired you are.”
