Veteran TV exec Joel Cheatwood is getting a promotion at Fox News Channel. Cheatwood is now the senior VP of development for FNC.

In making the announcement, FNC/FBN Chairman & CEO Roger Ailes said, "Joel has already made a tremendous contribution to FOX News and I'm confident he will continue to be a valuable asset to the organization."

Cheatwood joined FNC earlier this year from CNN where he was executive director of program and talent development. Before that, Cheatwood worked in local TV news, most recently as EVP for the CBS O&O's. He made his mark, sometimes indelibly, in several markets including Boston (WHDH), Miami (WSVN) and Chicago (WMAQ).

SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF DEVELOPMENT FOR FOX NEWS

Veteran television executive Joel Cheatwood has been promoted to Senior Vice President of Development for FOX News, announced Roger Ailes, Chairman and CEO of the network and Chairman of FOX Television Stations.

In making the announcement, Ailes said, “Joel has already made a tremendous contribution to FOX News and I’m confident he will continue to be a valuable asset to the organization.”

Prior to joining FOX News as a Vice President earlier this year, Cheatwood served as the executive director of program and talent development at CNN since April 2004, where he created and launched both Glenn Beck’s program and Showbiz Tonight for Headline News, achieving the highest primetime ratings ever in the network’s tenure. He also oversaw the launch of Nancy Grace, the most successful program in the history of Headline News. Before CNN, he was the executive vice president at CBS Television Stations where he managed all news and promotion for the owned and operated stations.

Cheatwood made his mark in the television industry throughout a variety of positions in local news. Before his network stints, he served as the station manager at KYW-TV (CBS) in Philadelphia overseeing all news operations and prior to that, he was vice president of news and promotion at WMAQ-TV (NBC) in Chicago.

He also spent six years as the senior vice president at Sunbeam Television where he was responsible for both news and promotion at WHDH-TV (NBC) in Boston and WSVN-TV (FOX) in Miami. While at Sunbeam, he also developed and oversaw two nationally syndicated magazines, Inside Report and Real Life.
