After a morning full of goodbyes at Good Morning America, ABC’s assignment desk and the staff of World News Tonight surprised Charles Gibson with a “welcome party” this afternoon. “Staffers gathered around the news desk for cake and congratulations,” a tipster says. “Jon Banner, executive producer of WNT, summed it up perfectly: ‘We’re glad you’re finally ours.’”
