Glenn Beck, the “Recovering Egomaniac”

beck_1-27.jpgThe Houston Chronicle’s David Barron profiles FNC’s Glenn Beck, who explains one of the differences between himself and his new colleague Bill O’Reilly — he’s not looking out for you.

“I know that we have created this box for ourselves on talk radio where you must be a Republican,” says Beck. “But I don’t care about the candidates. I care about the republic. Everybody on the radio or TV says, ‘I’m looking out for you.’ Not me, Jack. I’m standing guard and shouting as loud as I can about what I think is coming because of my kids. I’m looking out for my kids.”

Beck describes himself as a “recovering egomaniac” and describes how his life has changed since his early days in radio. “You have to have a decent respect for your ability to reason, but there’s a difference between saying I’m right and doing what I’m doing,” he says.
