Have Phones, Will Report

UN_8.30.jpgDuring the breaking news of chemicals found at the UN this afternoon, FNC correspondent Laura Ingle rushed to the scene with her Treo and Blackberry in hand. She turned the Treo on herself using it as her camera. Meanwhile, Ingle used her blackberry to communicate: to speak to the viewers and hear the anchors.

We’re told this is the first time those two devices — Treo and Blackberry — were united enabling a reporter to do a live shot without the standard equipment: field camera, microphone IFB, and lighting.

Is this the future of breaking news gathering?
