Jeff Gralnick Celebrates 50 Years In TV News

Gralnick.jpg “I always knew I was going to be in journalism,” Jeff Gralnick tells TVWeek‘s Michele Greppi , part of an interview marking his 50 years in television news. Gralnick began his career at CBS, and was one of 60 Minutes‘ first producers. He went on to EP ABC’s World News Tonight and the NBC Nightly News, later working at CNN. Currently, he’s an NBC News consultant.

Through the years, he says, he learned a lot from colleagues, including Walter Cronkite, Roone Arledge, Tom Brokaw, and Barbara Walters.

And he’s got lots to say about the state of the networks’ evening news programs. “At what point does it become economically non-feasible to spend the amount of money (to do an evening news broadcast)? I hope the answer to that question is never,” he tells Greppi, “But I wouldn’t bet my own money on that being the outcome.”
