Katie Couric‘s cross-country “Eye on America” tour kicked off today in Tampa.

This morning, she was “the keynote speaker at a sold out fundraising breakfast to benefit the Florida Division of the American Cancer Society,” WTSP says. Then it was time for a “town meeting,” where she asked prescreened viewers what they want in news programs. The events are closed to the press.

She’ll “move on to Dallas tomorrow, Minneapolis Wednesday, Denver Thursday, and finish the week” in San Diego, Union-Tribune columnist Robert P. Laurence reports. “Over the weekend, she’ll take questions from about 200 of the nation’s TV critics at their semiannual tour in Los Angeles, then finish her tour in San Francisco July 17.”
