Well that didn’t take long: Kiran Chetry filled in for Soledad O’Brien on American Morning today. TVNewser hears that Chetry is CNN’s newest hire, though the net hasn’t announced her position yet.

“Kiran’s an excellent anchor who we have been watching for a while,” a CNN spokesperson tells TVNewser. “When she became available so suddenly, we jumped at the chance to hire her. We hope her previous employer treats her with the class she deserves as she embarks on her new assignment.”

So what’s this memo all about? A CNN tipster says Fox’s motivation seems obvious: “When Roger realized he wasn’t going to be able to keep her, he decided to pull a preemptive strike.”
