Larry King to Howard Kurtz About SNL Parodies: ‘It means you accomplished something’

Outgoing CNN host Larry King talked to Howard Kurtz on Sunday’s “Reliable Sources” about everything from interviewing presidents to being made fun of on “Saturday Night Live.”

Kurtz asked King about how he felt about former president Bill Clinton saying “I can now bypass you people in the press because Larry King liberated me by giving me to the American people directly.”

King responded:

“I was in the audience. I was so embarrassed. I mean, the press are friends of mine. I love — I love journalism. I love the people in it. I love newspapers. I love the reporters. And to have a president say that, of course, a compliment, but it was extremely embarrassing. However, with the rise of cable news, he may have been prophetic not just that he can go to Larry King.”

When Kurtz asked King about the SNL parodies, he seemed not fased by the whole thing:

“To be made fun of on ‘Saturday Night Live’ is fine. You know, it means you’re being recognized. It means you accomplished something. It’s OK to be satirized. It ain’t that important, Howie.”
