Mark Strassmann Named Transportation Correspondent for CBS News

CBS News has named Mark Strassmann transportation correspondent. He will continue to serve as the network’s Atlanta-based correspondent, and the channel notes that Atlanta is home to the world’s busiest airport, Hartfield-Jackson.

In a note to staff, Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews notes Strassmann’s coverage over the last 10 years, encompassing war zones and natural disasters:

“Mark has been at CBS News since January 2001 and has covered major domestic and international stories, including the BP Oil Spill, Hurricane Katrina, and the final years of the space shuttle program,” Ciprian-Matthews wrote. ” Mark has made multiple trips to Iraq since 2003, reporting from the front lines for seven weeks as US forces swept from Kuwait into Iraq.  In recent years he’s covered events in Haiti and the earthquake in Chile.”

Her full memo is after the jump.

I’m pleased to announce Mark Strassmann has been named CBS News Transportation Correspondent.  This is in addition to Mark’s duties as our Atlanta bureau Correspondent.

From his base in Atlanta—home to the world’s busiest airport—Mark will be supported by Carter Yang in Washington.

Carter has done outstanding work on the transportation beat with both Bob Orr and Nancy Cordes.  In Atlanta, Chris St. Peter will continue to work with Mark and Carter to make our coverage shine.

Mark has been at CBS News since January 2001 and has covered major domestic and international stories, including the BP Oil Spill, Hurricane Katrina, and the final years of the space shuttle program.  Mark has made multiple trips to Iraq since 2003, reporting from the front lines for seven weeks as US forces swept from Kuwait into Iraq.  In recent years he’s covered events in Haiti and the earthquake in Chile.

Please join me in congratulating Mark!
