Midterms: “The World’s Watching This… It’s All About Iraq,” Matthews Says

MATTHEWS: I think the world’s watching this. I was all the evidence — I was looking at the London Financial Times this afternoon. It’s all about Iraq. The world will say this is a verdict from the American people: do we support the war in Iraq? Or simply does our government support it? If the American people vote heavily Republican tonight, the world will say ‘Bush leads the American people, they want this war.’ And if they vote heavily Democrat, the world will say ‘we cannot blame the people, this is Bush’s war.’ It will be a very profound impact on the world.
