More Layoffs on the Horizon for CBS News?
The Daily Beast’s Rebecca Dana writes about CBS News today, and says that there will be another round of layoffs at the company this Fall “according to senior staffers.” Dana adds that the network’s “most popular” programs, like “60 Minutes” and “48 Hours Mystery” will likely be spared.
CBS News responded in the article by citing its Emmy nominations, and adding:
Our audiences number in the tens of millions every week. Those are the facts. Anything else is water cooler gossip and empty speculation. We are evolving and we are thriving.
Of course, Dana has a long history of writing about CBS News, with decidedly mixed results. two and a half years ago, when she was at the Wall Street Journal, Dana wrote that Katie Couric would leave the network after the 2008 election. Needless to say that did not come to pass.
