Morley Safer Talks to the Father of the Cell Phone

Cooper_5.20.jpg

This is Martin Cooper, the inventor of the cell phone, re-enacting the world’s first public cell phone call. He made the call 37 years ago in this very spot — the corner of 6th Ave. and 53rd St. in New York City.

Cooper is holding a model of the first cell phone that his team at Motorola developed and introduced in 1973. Cooper talks with Morley Safer tomorrow on “60 Minutes.”

Here’s a TVNewser re-enactment prediction:

Martin Cooper: Hi Honey, I’m at the Falafel truck. Did you want Hummus on the side?

Mrs. Martin Cooper: How did they get the Falafel truck into your office?
