Morning Shows Report Leno News; ABC Stands Behind ‘Nightline’

This morning, the weekend news of Jay Leno‘s move from 10pm back to late-night was a hot topic on the morning shows. “Good Morning America,” “The Early Show,” and the “Today” show all featured the story, with ABC labeling it: “Inside NBC’s Nightmare.”

The ABC, CBS, and NBC weekend evening newscasts also reported the story last night.

Many are speculating about whether “Tonight” show host Conan O’Brien will accept the idea of moving his show even later on the NBC schedule or bolt to another network, like FOX or ABC. ABC already has a successful show at 11:35pmET — “Nightline” — which is faring well against the comedy competition. Now, ABC seems to be removing themselves from that discussion and standing behind their news program and the current lineup.

A network spokesman tells TVNewser, “With all due respect to Conan, we like the late night hand we are currently playing.”
