NBC News London to Move In With ITV
First on TVNewser: Sources tell TVNewser that over the next two months, NBC News London staffers will move out of their current facility and move in with ITV News, the news division of British broadcaster ITN. We’re told the networks will share a new, state of the art digital workspace.
NBC’s London move is just the latest in what has been series of moves, both domestically and internationally, as American networks face the rising costs of newsgathering with the growing demand of content on more platforms, including the Web and mobile.
NBC News spokesperson Allison Gollust tells TVNewser some NBC News employees will be re-assigned to ITN, while there have been “some voluntary buyouts” over the last six months. “We don’t expect there will be anything additional connected to the move,” Gollust says.
While ABC has long partnered with the BBC. NBC has had an arrangement with ITN for more than 10 years. ITN reporters often show up on NBC News broadcasts. NBC News even hired ITV’s Ian Williams when it opened a Bangkok bureau in October, 2006.
Says Gollust, “Moves like this enable us to dedicate resources in growth areas — making us stronger and better positioned to face the future.”
Chris Hampson remains NBC News London bureau chief.
