Obama Campaign Wants You To Watch CNN Tonight
You know that text message the Obama campaign sent out to announce their VP pick? Well, the campaign is still sending out texts to many of those who subscribed, including HuffPo’s Danny Shea. Here’s one they sent out this afternoon:
Watch Barack debate John McCain tonight at 9pm Eastern on CNN. Also, remind friends to register to vote at VoteForChange.com. Please forward this message.
Um. A campaign asking voters to watch on a specific network? Could you imagine if the McCain campaign had asked voters to watch Fox News? And shouldn’t the Obama campaign say “watch on MSNBC” since that network is supposedly ‘in the tank’ for the candidate? Or is the campaign in the tank for CNN?
Anyway, Shea asked the Obama campaign about it. An Obama staffer said it was “shorter than saying ‘on cable news,’” and that they were “not trying to make news.” Nice try.
> Update: A couple emailers have sent a text message the Obama campaign sent out, which updates the CNN-related text message: “Watch Barack debate John McCain tonight at 9pm ET on any of the major networks or cable. REPLY to this msg with your 5 digit ZIP CODE for local Obama updates.”
