O’Reilly: ‘If you are going to do a straight newscast in primetime, you are going to lose’

Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly noted during an event about the future of news at Boston University: “If you give [viewers] a product that is entertaining and informative, you win,” but, “If you don’t, you get murdered.”

According to the school’s main newspaper, “The Daily Free Press,” O’Reilly, a BU alum, told the crowd last Friday that more traditional news shows, like CNN’s “Campbell Brown” will have trouble succeeding:

“Nobody watches Campbell Brown,” O’Reilly said. “You have to evolve if you want to survive in the commercial world. If you are going to do a straight newscast in primetime, you are going to lose.”

O’Reilly had plenty to say about the media, the Boston Globe, and news on the internet. But our favorite quote comes from a recent BU grad who said, “It made me sick because I was agreeing with him so much.”
