Shep Goes Home

smithmiss_3-12.jpgFNC anchor Shepard Smith got some local coverage as he returned home this week to cover the Mississippi primary election.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal writes about the fast-paced nature of news. “Work is crazy; you’re always on stage and trying to get everything right and dealing with technical problems. I love the adrenaline rush,” Smith said in the article. “I like that balance of real, real fast and real, real slow. That’s New York and Oxford.”

Smith says he’s traveled to 16 countries and 49 states while reporting and anchoring, but “I’ve never found a place I love more than Oxford.”

The Clarion-Ledger writes about Smith’s visit to his alma mater, University of Mississippi, during his trip, to speak to journalism students at the Southeast Journalism Conference.

Ralph Braseth, director of student media at Ole Miss, said of the visit, “He’s very famous and influential, and yet, in the blink of an eye, he gave up two-and-a-half hours to be with young people and encourage them. How can you not be impressed by that?”
